Topic 8 !! - Educational Video (POWTOON) -

I'm back!


This week, we learnt about

Basically, we need to learn this PowToon for our next assignment which is create an Educational Video.
It was a lot of fun doing the video with my other teammates; Ain  and Kiran.
Still, creating something takes A LOT OF TIME! Seriously!

We stayed back for quite few days to brainstorm the idea on what topic we wanted to do and stuff.
I'll show you some simple steps on how to use this PowToon thingy.

1. Go to the link https://www.powtoon.com/home/

Click on the 'Sign Up' and just follow the instructions.

2. You go to your PowToon homepage

You can choose to do your slides/video from scratch, or arrange the patterns prepared, or using the prepared templates.

3. Choose your own category.

4. Be creative!!

Let say, I choose this kind of template.

All the words, images, icons, transition, movement - they're all UP TO YOU!

You can choose different types of fonts, sizes, colors, transitions for the text. 

You can choose different background for the slides.

You can choose the characters you wanted! Most of the characters have other
movements that you can choose up to your liking

Lastly, you can also insert your OWN VOICE by clicking on the 'sound' part.

Looks fun, right? Believe me, it was a lot a fun doing it when you have the idea of what you want to do.

Topic 6 !! - Instructional Design -

I'm back! Hihihi!

Once again, NEW TOPIC!
Topic 6 is about instructional design.
....What is thatt?? << This was my thought too at first when my lecturer taught this.

Ok, Instructional Design is when you create instructional experiences which make the acquisition of
knowledge and skill more efficient, effective, and appealing.
Quite confusing, so I'll try to make it in my own sentence.

Instructional Design is basically when you want someone/students to learn a topic/syllabus based on what you have created before.
You can take it as like when you want to cook something, of course you're gonna need a recipe.
That recipe must contain all the ingredients, all the tools needed, and the method/ways to cook the dish.
Same with Instructional Design!
You need to know what you want to teach, who you are going to teach (target audience), what you need (materials) for the lesson, how you are going to teach the students (steps/ways).
SIMPLE!!
but, na-uh, not that simple~!

Luckily, I've learnt back in my Diploma years on how to make a Lesson Plan (LP), so it might not require that much hardship.

First, in order to create an Instructional Design, you need to know the model used.
We'll use
     ADDIE MODEL;
which stands for Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation.

To create an instructional design, first and foremost!!
Know your target audience - the age, level of proficiency of the students, the needs
Know your method               - theory, teaching method
Know your objectives           - what to be achieved, what to be learnt
Know your steps                    - how to teach/deliver lesson, how to handle students

Topic 1 !! - Blog Writing for ELT -

First topic for the subject Internet Technologies for Language Learning/ESP6013 is all about blogging!!
This is mainly the reason this blog was created, you know 😉

Now! In this topic, we would find out about different types of blog that users from all around the world used, specifically in language learning.
So, let's get going!


1. TYPES OF BLOG.

We have some blogs, first is Weblog - Blogger, WordPress, LiveJournal, TypePad. Next is Tutor Blog which is usually run by the teacher of the class. Third is Class Blog, a site shared between class members and both teacher and students can post in the main section and comments section. Lastly, we have Learner Blog which kinda like a student's personal blog
              
Here, I found a simple, yet informative video about blogging in education. You could learn something, so do watch it!

According to the video, you can see some benefits why it is good to use blog in education.

2. BENEFITS OF BLOGS

• It can provide extra reading for students; as buying a solid book could cost students a lot.
• Points the students to online resources related to lesson.
• Encourages passive/shy students to participate; as it only shows someone's word, not face to face interaction.
• Stimulate out-of-class discussion; something they could ask among classmates even out of school time
• Create a sense of community in class, thus build a closer relationship between students.

3. HOW TO KEEP YOUR BLOG INTERESTING?

• Update blog actively with learning materials, references or activities related to lesson.
• Encourage students to write in their blogs, read others' blog and comment appropriately.
• Gives information to students about updating their homework through blogs.
• Prepare an interesting topic actively for the students to participate in the discussions.

       For the conclusion, the existence of blog as a free and reliable platform is helping a lot in spreading information. It is also easier and cheaper, even for a teacher to use it to attract and encourage students to explore more education through it.
